1901 Fairbanks with No Model Stamp
1901 Fairbanks with No Model Stamp. Though this banjo has no model ID, it has all the attributes of either a Senator, or a Regent of this era. The ebony fretboard and ebonized maple peghead overlay are filled with various mother of pearl designs that are mostly engraved. The neck is mahogany and the scale length is 25-7/8”. The full spun-over rim has a 10-5/8” diameter, 28 original brackets, and a modern Remo Fiberskyn head. Tuners and tailpiece are original style celluloid and we have the banjo strung with LaBella #17 strings. Tone is warm with a hint of snap, making it suitable for both clawhammer and classic playing styles. The banjo is mostly original. The peghead finish looks overcoated, but the rest of the neck finish looks like the original French polish. Repairs in the SFI shop was mostly gluing a few loose spots. Price is $2,100 and we include a modern hard case.
