1991 Goose Acres T 11M
Though this gray-haired music shop proprietor is making noises about retirement and doing my best to not acquire inventory, occasionally something comes along that is irresistible. Today we present this 1991 Goose Acres 5-string open-back banjo for you to also find irresistible. Being part of the team that designed this banjo I love the feel and the tone. Impeccable craftsmanship doesn’t hurt either. The banjo’s neck and rim are natural blond finished hard maple. The ebony fretboard has a 26-1/4” scale and a few dots for position markers. The peghead is decorated with the Goose Acres “GA” logo that unintentionally resembles the anarchist’s symbol. The rim diameter is 11” and has a nickel-plated tone hoop. Metal parts made at the 2175 Cornell Rd, Shop include the hooks, the tension hoop, tone hoop, and the patented Peter H. Smakula dual acting truss rod. The geared tuners are all by Schaller. The shape of the neck was influenced by the Fairbanks-Vega banjos of the early 1900’s. Comfortable and easy playing. Tone is warm, round, and precise. If I didn’t already own a similar instrument, I would not let this one go. Having been played respectfully for 33 years, the condition is excellent. Priced at $2,000 we include a nearly new Superior hard case.
