1962 Gretsch Country Club Thin Hollowbody Electric Guitar
1962 Gretsch Country Club Thin Hollowbody Electric Guitar. Ah, the mid 1980’s. Back when you could score interesting vintage guitars like this for a song at garage sales in the suburbs. Truth be told, though I liked this guitar, I really wanted the high-wheeled bicycle the garage sale offered, but I was too late. Probably a good thing, as I still have my front teeth. Yes, I’ve had this guitar for about 40 years, and have realized I am a solid acoustic player and an electric guitar this nice is wasted on me, so time to move it to an appreciative home. Mostly original, with the 2 Gretsch Filtertron pickups and more switches than necessary to control them, here are a few details that have been changed. One of the original Grover Imperial tuners was broken and Grover gave me a replacement set. I refretted it back in the 1980’s. The tailpiece broke and I was able to purchase a close replacement from Duke Kramer in the 1990‘s. While purchasing the tailpiece, I bought 2 new pickup surrounds to eventually replace the cracked originals. The mechanism for the mute was missing. Around the time I bought the guitar, I had a Gretsch Country Gentleman and was able to use that guitar’s mute as a model to recreate a functional mute. I may have replaced the bridge, but we all know that neither of the original choices, the Roller bridge and the Melita bridge, were a good idea. Condition wise, the guitar is structurally solid. The amount of flaked finish has not changed in the 40 years of living with me. Look over the pictures, ask questions, or even make an appointment to come out and plug the guitar in. I think you’ll like it. $2,500 and an original grey exterior Lifton hard case is included as well as a bonus Gretsch branded plaid guitar strap.
