1933 Kalamazoo KG-11, By Gibson
1933 Kalamazoo KG-11, By Gibson. As-Is Project. These short body ladder braced Kalamazoo guitars are an affordable alternative to the now high priced guitars made by Gibson in the 1930’s. This one, though mostly intact, does need attention, but will be a fun and fulfilling project for the next owner. The mahogany neck has a 24-3/4” scale Brazilian rosewood fretboard and Kalamazoo stenciled on the peghead. The body has solid mahogany back and sides and a solid spruce top. The top has been refinished black, and that color does not look inappropriate. The back is loose from the sides and I expect there are loose braces in the dusty interior. With the back being loose, you have a head start in it’s removal to start regluing braces, or even converting the top braces from ladder to X! For $550 there is a lot of vintage vibe and tonal potential. And the price includes a 1950’s or '60's white chipboard case.
