1925 Gibson MB-Jr, Mandolin Banjo. Though this banjo is technically a prewar Gibson flat head, it does not have the coveted Gibson Mastertone cast bronze flat head tonering. But I think it can easily compete in volume with one of those banjos. The Junior series was Gibson’s budget offering in the 1920’s, with simple decoration and solid quality. The maple neck has a “snakehead” peghead shape and a 13-7/8” scale ebony fretboard. The 9” maple rim has 10 brackets and we fit it with a Remo Renaissance head. Besides the remarkable amplitude, the instrument is easy to play. All you could possibly want if you choose to be a Jam-Buster at a music festival. Price is a modest $475 and the price includes the original chipboard case.
