1880’s New York School Banjo with Metal Rim, Project. Another odd duck from the early days of banjo manufacture. The neck is a normal looking neck made of walnut with a peghead shape commonly seen on Morrison instruments. The rim is what we referred to as a “Holier Than Thou” product. The 10-3/4” brass rim has 18 holes that are 5/8” in diameter, presumably to reduce the weight to a modest 5-1/2 pounds. The rim has 20 brackets and two of the hooks and nuts are long lost down a heating register somewhere. A fun restoration project, or perfect décor if you are the interior decoration buyer for one of those restaurants with all the crazy crap on the walls. The as-is price is $225.
