1920’s Weyman NO 40 Tenor Banjo, As-Is
1920’s Weyman NO 40 Tenor Banjo, As-Is. A decently made 17 fret (20” scale) tenor banjo that needs some fussing to get it in to great playing shape. Or maybe this is a perfect banjo for your 5-string conversion neck. The neck is striking curly maple with a charcoal gray finish. The ebonized maple peghead overlay is decorated nicely with mother-of -pearl inlay, though one piece is missing. The ebonized maple fretboard has a tight 7-1/2” long crack. The 100 years of shrinkage has also caused the fretboard to be 1/32” smaller than the edge of the maple neck. The neck also has 1/32” of forward bow. The 10-1/2” maple rim is finished to match the neck and has all the original hardware, minus the tailpiece and ebony neck tensioning wedges. At $250 this banjo is less than ½ the cost of new hardware and wood rim from any of the popular US banjo parts suppliers. Snag it quick!
