New Core Select Lord Wilton Model Violin
New Core Select Lord Wilton Model Violin. I receive advertising emails from violin distributors frequently and after I make sure there are no special sales on strings or rosin, I immediately delete. But now and then an instrument catches my attention and I need to investigate further. After purchase and doing the meticulous set-up for fiddle playing with my favorite Pirastro Chromcore strings, I was not disappointed. Modeled after a Guarneri del Gesù instrument crafted in 1742, this instrument has the vibe of a well-cared for antique violin, but it’s new and will not have to go regularly to the repair shop. The specs are as you would expect from a Cremona Italy violin design. Curly maple neck, sides and a one piece back. Top is spruce and the Guarneri style chinrest, fingerboard, endpin and tuning pegs are ebony. Tailpiece is a Wittner composite with 4 fine tuners. Tonally it is even from the G string to the E string with a brightness that is not shrill. Certainly at home in a square dance band or an old time jam session. The price is a modest $1,200 and includes a featherweight case.
