1930 Weymann Style 4 tenor banjo. For Parts or Repair project
On Hold.
1930 Weymann Style 4 tenor banjo. For Parts or Repair project. This banjo has had a lot of fun. The neck has significant wear and the frets are grooved out and even some of the fretboard is worn through to the under laminant. I can only imagine how great this banjo will sound if restored. Here are some details to get you excited about doing some repairs on this upper end Weymann banjo. The neck and resonator are made of rosewood. The peghead inlay is a floral pattern with Weymann inlaid in the middle. The 22-3/4” scale ebony fretboard has a mother of pearl floral vine from the first to the nineteenth fret, with a few pieces missing. The heel has some light carving and the back of the peghead has back strapping that extends to the area behind the 3rd fret. The outer veneers of the megaphonic rim are mahogany. The tonering is substantial and has an 11” diameter. Added to the inside of the rim are a couple of small light bulb sockets so you can dry out the calf skin head on those muggy summer evening gigs. The resonator is a press fit allowing quick removal to tighten or loosen the head, or even to change the Christmas tree bulbs that dried out the saggy head. The resonator binding is loose and there are some pieces of the decorative wood marquetry around the outside edge are missing. The banjo is missing pieces (tuners, tailpiece, etc.…) and is in poor condition. Still, a banjo that started out mighty nice deserves a second chance. Even if it is to pirate parts for the other Weymann style 4 you own. Price is $300
